EEZ Achieves First Atomic Cross-Chain Transaction on Ethereum
The Ethereum Economic Zone (EEZ) has achieved a major milestone by successfully testing an atomic transaction between the Ethereum mainnet and a layer-2 network. Eduardo Antuña Díez, a contributor to the project, shared the transaction on Tuesday, calling it the "first atomic cross-chain" L1-to-L2 transaction. The transaction involved transferring 0.001 Ether (ETH) and updating the state of a rollup, demonstrating the seamless interaction between different networks.
An atomic transaction ensures that all linked actions across networks either succeed together or are reversed if any part fails. This feature is crucial for maintaining the integrity of cross-chain operations. In March, EEZ developers stated that the framework is designed to enable rollups to interact with each other and the Ethereum mainnet within a single transaction, eliminating the need for bridges. The goal is to unify liquidity and applications currently fragmented across separate L2 networks.
The lack of synchronous composability has been a significant challenge, forcing protocols to maintain separate deployments across L2s, which fragments liquidity into multiple markets. Friederike Ernst, co-founder of Gnosis, previously highlighted this issue to Cointelegraph. Jakub Gregus, co-founder of Hydration, described the demonstration as "one of the most important milestones" in crypto, emphasizing its potential benefits for Ethereum.
