El Salvador's Bitcoin Stash Surpasses $600 Million Amid Ongoing Daily Purchases
El Salvador's Bitcoin stash has surpassed $600 million after the country continued its daily purchase of one BTC, worth around $77,000 at current prices. This brings the national stockpile to 7,762.37 BTC.
The policy, which began in 2026, has seen El Salvador accumulate over 1,000 BTC on a single day in November last year, taking advantage of a dip in price. The country's Bitcoin cache now holds an unrealized profit of $167.82 million, according to DropsTab.
El Salvador adopted Bitcoin as legal tender in 2021 and has been steadily increasing its adoption into education, public administration, and economic infrastructure. However, the International Monetary Fund required El Salvador to halt public sector Bitcoin purchases as part of a $1.4 billion funding deal last year. The country tweaked its Bitcoin law and made acceptance voluntary rather than mandatory.
