Shaw Walters, founder of Eliza Labs and creator of the open-source AI agent framework ElizaOS, declared his project's token 'dead' on August 5, 2026. The decision follows a class action lawsuit filed by Burwick Law in April against Walters, Eliza Labs, and affiliated parties, alleging false advertising and deceptive practices.

The suit claimed the project misrepresented itself as an autonomous, AI-managed venture fund governed by an independent agent while remaining under Walter's control. The team settled the case by transferring their remaining treasury to a group of token holders, effectively ending foundation-level support for the token.

Walters emphasized that he personally did not profit from the project, stating that he held around $25 million worth of tokens at one point and never sold them. He also highlighted the emotional and physical toll of overwork, citing a frozen shoulder and health issues as a result of his dedication to the project.
