Eliza Token Declared 'Dead' as Founder Winds Down Foundation
The Eliza token has been declared 'dead' by its founder Shaw Walters following a legal settlement. The foundation behind the project, Eliza Labs, is winding down after transferring its remaining treasury and available funds to settle a lawsuit brought by Burwick Law.
The lawsuit accused the project of false advertising, deceptive acts, and practices, and challenged the token migration from ai16z to ElizaOS, claiming it diluted existing holders' shares. Walters said the project could not afford to fight the case and settled instead.
Walters confirmed that foundation support for the token has ended, along with buybacks and other mechanisms designed to support its price. He also stated that he will not launch another Eliza-linked token in the future.
The development of the open-source ElizaOS AI agent framework will continue independently under Walters' control, despite the token's shutdown. Walters argued that his long-term focus remains building open-source AI agent software capable of giving users greater control over their own data and enabling locally operated, crypto-enabled AI agents.
