Emmer vs Waters: CLARITY Act's Fate Hangs in Balance Amid Digital Assets Regulation Debate
Despite its recent defeat in the Senate, Congress continues to discuss digital assets regulation. Representative Tom Emmer remains hopeful that the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act (CLARITY Act) will be revisited and passed before year's end.
The CLARITY Act failed to reach the required 60 votes in the Senate, causing its demise. However, Emmer downplayed the defeat, stating that it would only delay the bill until after the midterms. He compared passing the GENIUS Act without the CLARITY Act to having a cell phone without cell towers.
On the other hand, Representative Maxine Waters opposed the bill due to its ethics provisions, which she believes condone President Trump's 'worst actions.' She emphasized that any legislation in the crypto space would serve to validate and condone his corruption until Congress passes legislation to end his crypto profiteering.
