ESMA Shifts Focus from Rulemaking to Oversight for Crypto-Asset Providers
The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) is shifting its focus from creating rules for crypto-assets under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation to oversight and regulatory consistency.
According to Verena Ross, chair of ESMA, this shift will prioritize operational resilience, outsourcing risks, and liquidity of crypto-asset service providers through 2027.
As part of this new approach, ESMA plans to standardize reporting requirements across member states and launch a system to monitor suspicious trading in the crypto market.
