ETF-Fueled Rally Falters as Crypto Investors Eye Next Move

Bitcoin's price surge has been fueled by a six-week influx of $6.8 billion into crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs), with the iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) accounting for $3.4 billion of that total. This massive injection of capital has driven up the price of Bitcoin, which is currently trading at $76,011.20. However, despite its 24% monthly gain, Bitcoin's rally may be nearing its end.

The influx of money into crypto ETFs is a mechanical bid for spot Bitcoin, as investors who buy IBIT shares must deliver actual Bitcoin to BlackRock to create new ETF units. This daily cash-settled bid has been the driving force behind the price surge, but it may not be enough to sustain the rally.

Ethereum and Solana have actually outpaced Bitcoin's gains, with Ethereum rising 34% and Solana climbing 38% over the same month. This is due in part to their thinner floats and heavier retail participation, which amplify price moves more sharply.

The six-week rally has recouped some of a larger drawdown, but it has not created a new high. Today's fade suggests that the mechanical ETF bid may be insufficient to absorb profit-taking from holders who bought lower.
