Ethereum Expands Beyond Blockchain: Vitalik Buterin Sees Rapid Progress

Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, believes that the network is rapidly expanding beyond its traditional role as a blockchain. Speaking at the 12th Global Blockchain Summit in Shanghai, he expressed optimism about the 'huge amount of progress' being made on both the protocol and application levels.

According to Buterin, every upcoming hard fork, which involves permanent changes to the blockchain's protocol, will incorporate advanced cryptographic features, including quantum-safe signature algorithms. This represents a significant leap forward in terms of security and functionality.

'All of these things together, they all are turning Ethereum from being just a blockchain to being this much bigger network with different layers at it,' Buterin said.
