Ethereum developers have set October 6 as the target date for the Sepolia testnet to implement the Glamsterdam upgrade. This is a tentative schedule, and the actual deployment depends on the outcome of private devnet testing.

The private devnet, Devnet-9, launched on September 1 with 1,000 validator nodes but has yet to run stably. Protocol specialist Christine D. Kim noted that developers agreed to the October 6 Sepolia date while acknowledging several caveats, including the need for a stable private devnet.

The network exposed problems related to edge cases and issues left to address, said Ethereum Foundation (EF) developer operations engineer Stefan Starflinger. A bug tied to EIP-8037 was also flagged by EF researcher Maria Silva, requiring every execution-layer client to update its code.

Another devnet is coming, Devnet-11, which will test the fixes for these issues. Parithosh Jayanti said that if this devnet fails again, 'we'd have to take it case by case' on whether October 6 still works.
