Ethereum Fees Plummet as USDT Holders De-Risk
The Ethereum network has seen an unusual split between USDT holders and transaction fees. According to Santiment data, over the past 11 days, USDT has lost 251,350 non-empty wallets, marking its steepest short-window decline since December 2022.
This sharp decline in USDT wallets may indicate that smaller holders are consolidating balances or shifting funds to other networks. However, it doesn't necessarily mean that capital is leaving the crypto market altogether.
On the other hand, Ethereum fees have dropped significantly, from $0.72 on April 21 to just $0.095 per transfer, a reduction of 86.8%. This decline can be attributed to higher blob capacity and expanded gas limits.
The lower transaction costs are creating a cheaper trading window for DeFi users, allowing them to rebalance positions without incurring high fees. However, the USDT contraction remains a metric worth watching, as it could indicate shifting liquidity behavior on the network.
