Ethereum fixes software glitch ahead of major Sepolia test

Ethereum developers have released a last-minute software update to fix a critical setting before the Glamsterdam test on the Sepolia network. The update ensures validators will produce blocks with the intended capacity of 200 million gas units, rather than the previous limit of 60 million. The fix was necessary because earlier versions of Prysm, a validator software, did not include the new gas limit setting, which could have diluted the test results.

The Glamsterdam upgrade, set to activate on Sepolia at 13:53:36 UTC on October 6, aims to test how the network handles significantly larger blocks. Validators running the latest version of Prysm will automatically propose blocks at the new limit, allowing developers to assess whether the network can consistently manage the increased capacity. This step is part of Ethereum's broader effort to gradually raise block capacity to accommodate more transactions and complex activities.

The 200 million gas limit applies only to the Sepolia test network and has not yet been activated on Ethereum's main network. The test will help developers determine the optimal block size for the mainnet, balancing performance with the demands placed on validators.
