Ethereum Foundation Deploys zkAPI on Mainnet with Open Anonymity Project
The Ethereum Foundation and the Open Anonymity Project have collaborated to launch zkAPI on the Ethereum mainnet. This system allows users to pre-deposit assets like ETH and USDC, separating their billing identity from service requests when paying for AI and usage-based services. Once funds are deposited, users can authorize payments using zero-knowledge proofs and one-time API keys. The server then generates short-term keys with spending limits, enabling AI service providers to receive prompts without knowing the associated payment identity. However, AI providers can still read the content of prompts and responses, and stable IP addresses, timing patterns, and repetitive behaviors may still link back to user identities.
zkAPI is currently labeled as an experimental project, and users are advised to carefully evaluate the risks involved. The project's codebase explicitly states that it is an experimental project, and users should be aware of the potential risks and limitations. The Ethereum Foundation and the Open Anonymity Project emphasize that this project is still in its early stages and requires further development and testing.
