Ethereum Institutional Backs Block Time Cuts Amid Growing Institutional Onchain Activity
Ethereum's push to speed up block production has gained momentum, thanks in part to Ethereum Institutional (a non-profit) endorsing Ethlabs' effort to reduce Ethereum block times.
The group argued that faster blocks are increasingly necessary as more institutional activity moves onchain. This sentiment is echoed by DeFi founders who have pledged support for EIP-8198 ('Quick Slots'), aiming for an initial reduction in block time from 12 seconds to 10 seconds.
Ethlabs is actively preparing the proposal for integration into Ethereum's broader upgrade roadmap, which includes the Hegotá upgrade. The organization is working on merging the proposal's specifications with the main codebase and investigating potential downstream dependencies.
