Ethereum Issuance Proposal Sparks Debate Over Staking Rewards
A proposal to change Ethereum's issuance policy has sparked controversy among developers and stakers. The Tapered Issuance Burn, or EIP-8363, would reduce validator rewards as more Ether is staked.
The proposal aims to cut the inflation rate by burning an increasing fraction of validators' consensus rewards as the amount of staked Ether approaches a threshold of 60.25 million Ether (around 50% of the current supply). The changes would phase in over 18 months.
Critics argue that reducing staking rewards will weaken institutional demand for Ether and disrupt DeFi markets built around staking yield. Some warn that solo validators, who have generally higher relative costs, may be forced out before larger institutions are affected.
