Ethereum Node Costs Plummet as AI Hardware Boom Takes Hold

The Ethereum network is experiencing a significant boost in decentralization thanks to the surge in demand for high-performance hardware. This trend, driven by the rise of local artificial intelligence applications, is making it possible for individuals to run full nodes on their personal computers.

Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has highlighted that running a Geth full node now requires only 461 GiB of storage after pruning. This reduced requirement means that many AI-powered home computers can take on roles previously reserved for specialized server-grade equipment.

The integration of the EIP-4444 standard and optimizations to snap sync have also led to faster synchronization, with a full node now able to be synchronized in about 12 hours, and disk requirements falling below 0.5 TB.
