Ethereum Sets Oct 6 Test Date for Glamsterdam on Sepolia Amid Attack Concerns
Ethereum developers have set October 6 as the date for testing Glamsterdam on Sepolia, a public testnet. This move is part of Ethereum's ongoing development and testing process, with a target gas limit of around 200 million.
However, there are concerns about potential attacks on the system. Potuz, an Ethereum consensus developer, warned that attackers could create fake builder identities, submit inflated bids, and then withhold payloads after winning block auctions. This would disrupt the testnet's value as a realistic public test.
The client teams face a September 29 software deadline, leaving only seven days before the fork, which is shorter than the usual two-week window for security reviews, testing, and bug fixes. The developers have accepted this compressed release window because Sepolia has fewer independent participants and is easier to monitor and recover.
