Ethereum Stakeholders Oppose Burn Proposal, Shift Debate Beyond Hegotá
The Ethereum community has seen a significant development in the form of EIP-8363. This proposed change aimed to burn a portion of validator rewards as more Ether (ETH) is staked, with the goal of preventing high staking participation from threatening Ethereum's security and neutrality.
However, on October 1st, the authors withdrew their proposal from consideration for the Hegotá upgrade. The withdrawal was announced by co-author Jérôme de Tychey, who stated that 'a fork scoping exercise was not the right venue to settle an issuance policy change.'
This move leaves current issuance rules intact and shelves the proposed reward reduction linked to Hegotá. The authors have committed to a separate process, with Lido offering to help facilitate it.
