Ethereum Turns 11: A Decade of Dominance
Ethereum has reached an impressive milestone - its 11th birthday. The network's mainnet went live on July 30, 2015, and since then, it has maintained a remarkable uptime of over 2,900 days without any downtime.
The platform has become the go-to layer 0 for stablecoins, tokenized assets, decentralized finance (DeFi), and large institutions. Its permissionless nature allows anyone to join as a validator, ensuring that the network can only grow and not be controlled in a closed or permissioned environment.
Ethereum's dominance is evident in its DeFi ecosystem, which holds approximately 8 times the value of the next largest chain, according to data from DefiLlama. The platform is also responsible for settling more than half of the total supply of stablecoins and has the highest share of tokenized real-world assets.
As Ethereum looks forward to its next decade, developers and second-generation networks (L2s) will play a crucial role in powering its growth. Issues such as regulatory systems, flow of money from ETFs, and the growth of real-world assets will be key drivers in the coming years.
