Ethereum Unveils Cryptographic World Computer Vision
Vitalik Buterin has unveiled his long-term vision for Ethereum's architecture, which he calls the 'cryptographic world computer.' This framework combines decentralized consensus, zero-knowledge proofs, distributed computation, privacy systems, and post-quantum cryptography to create a hybrid system that blends traditional blockchain principles with newer cryptographic research.
The shift towards this new architecture is already visible in several parts of Ethereum's roadmap. Data availability, block construction, and consensus are moving towards designs that reduce duplication while preserving verifiability across the network.
One example of this direction is PeerDAS, introduced through the December 2025 Fusaka upgrade, which allows nodes to verify blob availability by sampling data rather than downloading every blob. This reduces bandwidth requirements while supporting higher Layer 2 capacity.
