Ethereum vs. Solana: Which Cryptocurrency is the Better Buy for 2030?
Ethereum's Glamsterdam upgrade is set to be tested on October 6, 2026, on the Sepolia network, after a previous delay. The upgrade is a key event for the Ethereum network, which has been trading 45.3% below its all-time high of $4,946 in August 2025. To regain its previous high, Ethereum would need to rise by 83%. This is a significant challenge, given the cryptocurrency's large market cap of $330 billion.
On the other hand, Solana has been experiencing strong demand, particularly among U.S. spot funds, which have attracted inflows for 11 consecutive weeks, including a significant $188 million in one week. However, a 96% single-week drop in September shows that momentum can vanish quickly. To return to its peak, Solana would need a 149% increase.
Ethereum's large market cap limits its upside potential, as the larger the network, the more new capital it needs to see significant price increases. Additionally, competing layer-2 networks could attract some of the transaction fees that Ethereum currently earns. Solana, with a market cap of $69.4 billion, is less stable but offers potentially higher gains.
