Ethereum Withdraws EIP-8363 from Hegota Candidates

Ethereum's proposal to reduce issuance through EIP-8363 has been withdrawn from the Hegota candidates, which are being prepared for the next network upgrade. The move follows a split among industry participants and core developers on whether to handle an issuance policy change together with a standard fork in the process of selecting Hegota candidates. Jerome de Tychey, Ethereum France representative, said he agreed with the views that major monetary policy issues such as ETH issuance should go through a separate governance process. EIP-8363, a plan to reduce Ethereum issuance, was proposed on August 4 by Justin Drake and others at the Ethereum Foundation. The proposal's core is a structure that burns a larger amount of staking rewards as the amount of staked ETH increases. The burn rate is designed to reach 100 percent when staked ETH reaches 60.25 million ETH, about half of total supply. Industry participants had mixed reactions to EIP-8363, with some opposing it, saying it could damage decentralised finance (DeFi). Aave founder Stani Kulechov supported discussing issuance policy separately through a distinct process, after the withdrawal announcement. The withdrawal of EIP-8363 means that Ethereum's network upgrade work and monetary policy discussions have taken shape toward being separated. EIP-8363 itself has not been scrapped, and discussion of issuance policy changes is expected to continue through a separate governance process.
