Ethereum's Crypto Future: A 'World Computer' on the Horizon

Ethereum's next era is underway as co-founder Vitalik Buterin envisions a 'cryptographic world computer' that combines blockchain security with advanced cryptography and decentralized computing.

Buterin sees Ethereum moving beyond its traditional blockchain design, leveraging proof-of-stake, zero-knowledge proofs, and Layer-2 networks to create a more efficient and secure network.

The upcoming Hegota fork is expected to introduce FOCIL, which can help ensure valid user transactions are included in blocks, as well as support more flexible accounts, including social recovery, spending limits, sponsored gas fees, and quantum-resistant signatures.

In Buterin's vision for 2030, Ethereum could become faster, more private, and easier to verify while maintaining its core security guarantees. The network could move from 17-second blocks to 4-8 second slots and reduce the time for 12 confirmations from 200 seconds to 8-32 seconds.
