Ethereum's Gas Fee Revolution: No ETH Needed, But Will Demand Rise?

Users of Ethereum have long been familiar with an awkward scenario where they need to hold ETH in their wallet to initiate transactions, but this might soon change. A recent update on EIP-8141 (Frame Transactions) by Vitalik Buterin has sparked discussion about the role of ETH in the network.

The issue arises from the fact that, currently, users must personally pay for gas fees using ETH when making a transaction. However, with EIP-8141, this process can be abstracted away, allowing other accounts to pay gas fees on behalf of the user.

Imagine sending money to a friend via WeChat; you don't need to worry about how the transaction is settled behind the scenes. Similarly, Frame Transactions aim to simplify the process by separating the act of signing from the payment of gas fees.
