Ethereum's Glamsterdam Upgrade Enters Final Phase Ahead of Major Test

The Ethereum Glamsterdam upgrade is nearing completion, with its final development phase underway. According to Toni Wahrstätter, an Ethereum Foundation researcher, the upgrade has made significant progress and is expected to be one of the largest forks in Ethereum's history.

The upgrade aims to improve transaction processing speed through parallelization, expand network capacity, and prevent long-term database bloat. It also includes features such as EIP-7928 (Block-Level Access Lists) and ePBS, which will reduce trust assumptions in block validation and enable parallelism on Ethereum.

A public testnet trial is scheduled for October 6, 2026, with the mainnet launch expected in Q4 2026. The upgrade's goals are to increase throughput, speed up synchronization, and ensure long-term sustainability against database bloat.
