Ethereum's Hardware Problem Solved by Local AI Computing Power
The Ethereum network has found an unexpected solution to one of its main infrastructure problems: high hardware costs. Co-founder Vitalik Buterin confirmed that running a node at home is now easier than ever, thanks to advancements in local AI computing power.
High-performance workstations used for large language models (LLMs) exceed the technical requirements for blockchain nodes, allowing users to run AI workloads and independently verify the blockchain. This excess power turns home computers into independent computing nodes, eliminating intermediaries entirely.
The integration of EIP-4444 standard and optimizations to snap sync has reduced synchronization times to around 12 hours and disk requirements below 0.5 TB. The next hard fork, Glamsterdam, will further accelerate synchronization at the base layer (L1).
