Ethereum's Hegotá Upgrade: Sorting Through 66 Proposals for 2027
Ethereum is gearing up for its expected upgrade in 2027, known as Hegotá. As of August 16, 66 proposals remain in competition to be sorted into the upgrade.
Among these proposals, FOCIL (EIP-7805) has already secured its place and aims to enhance censorship resistance by allowing a committee of validators to force the inclusion of transactions.
However, three other EIPs - EIP-8141, EIP-8250, and EIP-8272 - could provide privacy applications with tools directly integrated into the protocol. These proposals focus on validation, independent nonces, and recent roots, which would facilitate proof that a spend is based on a recent system state.
While these EIPs are not meant to add a 'private mode' to Ethereum, they aim to provide mechanisms that applications can use without having to rebuild everything on top of the protocol. This approach aligns with the roadmap dedicated to privacy on Ethereum.
