The European Union has introduced its 21st sanctions package against Russia, targeting the country's financial system, oil trade, and energy revenues. The measures aim to tighten pressure on Russia's economy, which EU officials believe is increasingly vulnerable.

The sanctions add 218 new designations, including 170 entities and 48 individuals, bringing the total number of listings to nearly 3,000. This package is the largest in four years.

Key measures include imposing full asset-freeze on 94 Russian financial institutions, banning transactions with 33 Russian banks, and disconnecting them from the SWIFT international payments system.
