EU Sanctions Against Russia Expand Financial and Crypto Curbs
The European Union has expanded its sanctions against Russia, imposing new restrictions on financial institutions and cryptocurrency platforms.
According to EU officials, more than 100 banks and crypto operators will be affected by the new measures, which aim to prevent Moscow from bypassing existing financial controls.
The package also includes a 12-month extension of the Russian oil price cap at $44.10 per barrel, as well as new restrictions on shadow-fleet vessels and related energy facilities.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas described the measures as the bloc's largest in four years, saying they will 'weaken the economic foundations' of Russia's war effort.
