EU to Revise Crypto Regulations Amid Stablecoin Pressure
European Union officials are planning to revise the bloc's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) framework by 2027 due to gaps exposed by foreign stablecoin restrictions and faster US rulemaking.
The revision is expected to address rules that have prevented non-EU stablecoins, such as USDT, from receiving authorization. This has led to some platforms, including Coinbase, Kraken, and Crypto.com, removing USDT trading for European customers.
EU diplomats report that policymakers will reopen the MiCA regulation in 2027 to examine how it treats stablecoins issued outside the EU. The planned revision may also expand MiCA to cover tokenized deposits, payments, and other real-world assets.
