EU Warns of Quantum Threat to Crypto Security

Share

The European Union has warned that Q-Day could arrive before quantum computers are commercially useful. The warning comes from the EU's High-Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence, which is responsible for monitoring and regulating AI development in the bloc.

The group expressed concerns that the widespread availability of powerful quantum computers could lead to a significant increase in cryptocurrency hacking and other malicious activities. Quantum computers have the potential to break even the most secure encryption algorithms currently in use, making it possible for hackers to access sensitive information and disrupt critical infrastructure.

The EU's warning is not surprising given the rapid advancements being made in quantum computing technology. While commercial applications are still in their infancy, researchers and developers are working tirelessly to bring quantum computers to market.
