Eurøpe Consortium Aims to Strengthen Euro in Onchain Finance
Eleven European digital finance platforms have united to form the Eurøpe Consortium, aiming to strengthen the role of the euro in onchain finance. Announced on 5 October 2026, the alliance seeks to bridge the gap between the EU's regulatory framework and practical market adoption of euro-denominated stablecoins. Currently, dollar-backed tokens dominate 99% of the global stablecoin market, leaving euro options with less than 1%.
The consortium's initial focus is on EURØP, a regulated e-money stablecoin issued by Schuman Financial in France. Available across six public blockchain networks, Avalanche, Solana, Ethereum, Polygon, Plasma, and the XRP Ledger, EURØP is already supported by platforms like SwissBorg, which offers zero-fee trading and loyalty rewards. The coalition believes a coordinated distribution approach will help build organic liquidity.
Founding members, including SwissBorg, eToro, and wallet infrastructure provider DFNS, will combine their efforts to make the euro native to public blockchains. The project addresses a structural imbalance where European companies rely on dollar-related digital assets for local transactions, despite starting and ending in euros. 'The Eurøpe Consortium brings European financial innovators together to ensure the euro plays a meaningful role as global financial activity moves onchain,' said Martin Bruncko, founder and CEO of Schuman Financial.
Technical interoperability is a key focus, with EURØP accessible on multiple blockchain architectures. The consortium also plans to integrate localized retail payment wallets, corporate treasury management links, and cross-border settlement rails. Long-term goals include incorporating traditional banking systems and fintech firms into the transactional network to expand the reach of euro-denominated digital assets.
