EURC Surpasses €400M in Circulation as Euro Stablecoins Gain Traction
Circle's euro-denominated stablecoin EURC has surpassed €400 million in circulation for the first time, according to Circle executives. This milestone marks a tenfold increase from its size when the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation took effect at the end of 2024.
Patrick Hansen, Circle's Director of EU Strategy and Policy, confirmed the figure on social media, saying EURC had 'officially crossed €400 million in circulation for the first time in history.' Peter Schroeder, another Circle executive, noted that EURC is the first euro-pegged stablecoin to reach this threshold.
The growth trajectory has been steep: supply stood at roughly €80 million in December 2024, more than doubled during the first half of 2025, and reached €310 million by the end of that year, representing 284% year-over-year growth. EURC debuted on Ethereum in June 2022 as Circle's answer to the demand for a regulated, euro-backed digital currency.
Circle expanded the token to Avalanche, Stellar, Solana, and Base throughout 2023, positioning EURC across five blockchains by late 2024. This multi-chain approach has been central to the token's adoption, allowing developers, payment providers, and institutions to integrate euro-denominated transactions without relying on a single network.
The expansion has translated into measurable usage. According to data compiled by Dune for Visa, local-currency stablecoins saw total transaction volume climb roughly 90% to $1.2 billion in the period ending February 2026. Euro-based stablecoins accounted for more than 80% of that market value and 85% of transactions.
Circle designed EURC to qualify as an e-money token under the European Union's MiCA regulation, issuing it from France through an institution supervised by the ACPR and backed with segregated reserves. Monthly attestations by independent third parties and 1:1 redemption through Circle's Mint platform have reinforced institutional confidence.
