Euro Trading Venue Shortfalls Exposed in Cryptocurrency Market
A recent survey of five European trading venues found that three out of the top 25 largest cryptocurrencies have no euro pair, and four more only have a single pair. This means that investors may encounter difficulties when trying to buy these coins using euros.
The survey was conducted on September 22, 2026, and included popular trading platforms such as Kraken, Bitvavo, Coinbase, Bitstamp, and Bitpanda. The researchers found that the largest cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin and Ethereum, were available against euros at all five venues. However, seven of the top 25 coins had only one euro trading venue, while three had none.
These three coins are Figure Heloc (at number ten), Rain (at number sixteen), and LEO Token (at number nineteen). Investors in Germany may still be able to buy these coins, but it will require a detour through another currency. The detours come with a price, which can add to the overall cost of investing.
One notable example is Zcash, which sits at number nine on the survey date and has exactly two euro trading venues. Another example is WhiteBIT Coin, which has only one euro trading venue despite being at number fourteen.
