The FBI has officially attributed a massive $6 billion cryptocurrency heist to North Korea. The hack targeted Binance, one of the world's largest crypto exchanges, marking one of the most audacious cyberattacks in recent history.
In a statement released Saturday, the FBI, alongside the US Secret Service and the IRS-Criminal Investigation division, identified the hackers as the TraderTraitor group. The agency noted that the stolen assets were primarily converted into Ethereum as part of an ongoing laundering operation.
The FBI warned that the stolen funds would likely be further laundered through decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms and instant swap services. This move underscores the growing sophistication of state-sponsored cybercriminals in exploiting vulnerabilities within the crypto ecosystem.
