FBI May Know Identity of Coldcard Theft Suspect

The theft of 1,082.65 BTC from Coldcard wallets has sparked an investigation by the FBI, which may have received information to identify the attacker.

A paid blockchain data account was used during the first wave of thefts, and investigators found an unusual pattern in the attacker's on-chain sweeps, according to Block engineering lead Clay Garrett. The company contacted the provider, whose internal logs matched the number, timing, and sequence of the suspected requests with 'extraordinary specificity.'

Galaxy Research's Alex Thorn noted that the identity of the first wave attacker 'may be known' to law enforcement, but no FBI statement confirms this claim.
