Federal Reserve Hikes Interest Rates for First Time in Over Three Years
The Federal Reserve made its first interest rate hike in over three years, unanimously deciding to raise rates by 25 basis points to a range of 3.75%-4%. This move follows a period of monetary policy easing in 2024 and 2025.
Bitcoin hovered around $76,000 with little immediate movement after the announcement, while Ether traded between roughly $2,370 and $2,430 before settling near the lower end of that range at $2,376.
According to Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh, inflation remains the central bank's main concern. He stated, 'The plain fact is that inflation is too high, and has been for too long.'
Warsh also expressed his desire to hike rates by 50 basis points, while President Donald Trump suggested on Truth Social that interest rates in the US should be 1% or less.
