Fetterman Courts Republican Donors Amid Shift in Campaign Strategy

The shift in strategy is a response to declining fundraising from Democrats, which has dropped sharply since 2023. Fetterman's campaign raised $76 million before taking office but only $7.4 million during his first two years in the Senate. His PAC has raised very little money since 2023.

Fetterman has maintained that he still identifies as a Democrat, despite his actions being seen as contradictory by some. He has repeatedly said he would not join the Republican Party, but his voting record suggests otherwise. In 2025, Fetterman voted in support of Trump and the Republican Party on 26% of Senate votes.

Some Democrats have criticized Fetterman's approach, with Rep. Brendan Boyle calling him 'Trump's favorite Democrat.' Others view Fetterman as a distraction from the party's efforts to win the midterms and combat the Trump Administration.
