Fired FBI Agent Accused of Stealing $1M in Cryptocurrency

Share

An FBI supervisory agent in Washington, D.C., Patrick Yaroch, is accused of taking around $1 million in cryptocurrency from digital accounts tied to a suspect in an overseas criminal investigation. The alleged theft occurred between 2024 and 2025, with Yaroch making 10-12 withdrawals using passcodes for the suspect's accounts obtained during the FBI investigation.

According to court documents, Yaroch reportedly told colleagues he began taking money due to frustrations that the FBI 'could not or would not act against adversarial cryptocurrency accounts.' The agent confessed to the alleged crime last week and his home was searched over the weekend.

The FBI confirmed that Yaroch has been fired from the agency and charged with interstate transfer of stolen goods. Investigators also confirmed a crypto wallet where he deposited the money, estimating it as less than $1 million.
