Firmus Valuation Surges to $10.5 Billion After $2 Billion Funding Round
Firmus, an Australian company that shifted its focus from Bitcoin mining to building artificial intelligence infrastructure, has secured $2 billion in new equity commitments. This influx of capital catapults Firmus's valuation to more than $10.5 billion, a significant increase from the $5.5 billion it reached just four months ago.
The funding round was led by existing investors Coatue and Nvidia, along with Blackstone Tactical Opportunities and other Blackstone funds. Jane Street also participated in the financing.
Firmus plans to direct the capital towards accelerating its AI factory build-out across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. The company's primary focus will be Project Southgate, which aims to deploy AI training and inference infrastructure across Australia. The first stages of the project are already under construction in Tasmania and Melbourne.
Firmus has developed a proprietary infrastructure platform called HyperCube, based on Nvidia's DSX AI Factory Reference Architecture. This design enables Firmus to bring computing capacity online more quickly while improving energy efficiency and system resiliency.
