FOP Endorses Clarity Act Amid Bitcoin Price Drop
The Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), representing over 382,000 law enforcement members, has announced its support for the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act. This endorsement comes as Bitcoin's price dips below $64,000 in today's trading session.
The FOP's backing is crucial for the legislation, which addresses concerns about the Blockchain Regulatory Certainty Act language in the bill. Revised Section 10604 maintains law enforcement's ability to investigate digital asset crimes while updating the treatment of these assets under Bank Secrecy Act authorities.
According to Patrick Yoes, National President of the FOP, the revised language preserves liability for individuals who knowingly transfer funds from criminal activity. The bill now includes ethics restrictions limiting federal officials from using or issuing digital assets.
