Global Instability Index Hits Elevated Levels Amid Rising Tensions Between US and Russia
The SITREP Index, which measures global instability, has reached an elevated level of 55, down from yesterday's reading. The index combines a structural conflict base with live news-velocity data from 56 sources and is calculated on a scale of 0 to 100.
Russia's index remains the highest at 81, driven by warnings from Russian officials that new US sanctions law would harm Trump's peace efforts. Other countries, including China, Ukraine, Iran, and India, have seen significant changes in their indices, with some showing reduced tension and others increased instability.
The Pentagon Pizza Index, a tongue-in-cheek proxy for military readiness, remains at DEFCON 5, indicating low activity levels. Geopolitical tensions are on the rise between the US and China, while Russia's index suggests heightened HF output from Russian stations.
