Golden Cross vs Bearish Divergence: XRP's Technical Setup
XRP's price action has caught the attention of investors and analysts due to an unusual technical setup. On one hand, institutional buying interest in XRP remains strong, with U.S. spot XRP ETFs having acquired close to 1.18 billion XRP as of September 28. This represents approximately 1.18% of the token's total supply.
The upcoming Ripple escrow window on October 1st is also worth noting, as it could potentially release up to 1 billion XRP into circulation. However, this development may not have a significant impact on the market, considering the large amount of XRP already in existence.
From a technical standpoint, the daily chart for XRP-USD presents a mixed signal. The 50-day SMA has crossed above the 200-day SMA, forming a golden cross, which is typically considered a bullish indicator. However, this longer-term bullish signal is at odds with the short-term momentum, as indicated by the Relative Strength Index (RSI) showing a bearish divergence.
This tension between the two signals could lead to a breakout from the current price range, but it's difficult to predict which direction XRP will take. As with any cryptocurrency market movement, caution is advised due to the high level of volatility in this asset class.
