Google’s Gemini AI mistakenly backs fraudulent TRON site tronify.rent
Google’s Gemini AI mistakenly endorsed a fraudulent TRON energy rental site called tronify.rent, leading to significant financial losses for users. The AI search assistant directed users to the fake domain, which stole approximately $69,651 from about 80 people in September 2026. A crypto investigator known as JP on X highlighted the issue, sharing screenshots of Trust Wallet notifications showing unauthorized transactions linked to tronify.rent.
The scam exploited Trust Wallet’s integration with Tronify, an energy provider, to gain credibility. While Trust Wallet had integrated Tronify to reduce TRON transfer fees, it did not endorse tronify.rent. The fake site presented itself as Tronify Energy Solutions LLC, claiming to be a registered LLC in Florida and SOC 2 Type II compliant, despite operating in beta testing with a 2024 copyright notice.
JP’s investigation revealed that tronify.rent used deceptive tactics, including directing users through YouTube videos that promoted the site. The site’s DDoS protection provider was also noted to be based in Russia. The incident underscores the risks of relying on AI-driven crypto advice and the need for stricter verification of crypto service domains as the industry grows.
