Gram Returns: Toncoin Rebrand Takes Effect Amid Telegram Wallet Rollout

Toncoin has been rebranded to Gram, its original name before it was changed in 2024. The change took effect on June 15, 2026 at 12:00 UTC, and holders of the token do not need to take any action.

The network's largest validator is now Telegram, which has taken over from the TON Foundation. This change is part of a larger overhaul that includes improved transaction fees and a faster block time.

Telegram has also released a self-custodial wallet inside its messenger app, initially available to a limited group of users. The wallet allows users to hold their private keys exclusively on their device, but this means they are responsible for backing up their recovery phrase and following best practices to secure their funds.

The Gram Wallet is not yet available in Germany, and users should be cautious of any messages promising early access in exchange for a payment or recovery phrase. The wallet's availability will depend on the country and user base, with Telegram planning to roll it out gradually.
