Grayscale Sees Bright Spots Amid Senate Setback for Crypto Regulations
The Senate's failure to advance the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act has left the crypto industry reeling, but Grayscale remains optimistic about the future of US cryptocurrency regulations.
In a procedural vote on September 15, the measure received only 49 votes in favor and 50 against, falling short of the 60 needed to overcome a filibuster. Despite this setback, Grayscale sees it as a minor bump in the road toward clearer regulations for digital assets.
The company points to the ongoing work of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) as evidence that US crypto policy continues to develop. The SEC has issued a joint interpretation with the CFTC on how federal securities laws apply to certain crypto assets, while also advancing crypto-specific rulemaking through its proposed Regulation Crypto Assets framework.
The regulatory efforts of the SEC and CFTC are seen as crucial steps toward establishing a clearer framework for digital assets. Grayscale reaffirms its commitment to working with policymakers and regulators to establish clearer and more comprehensive rules for digital assets, despite the legislative setback.
