Grayscale Singles Out Zcash for Private Transaction Edge Over Bitcoin
Grayscale has identified four cryptocurrencies well-suited for digital-currency use within its Currencies sector, with Zcash standing out as the asset with the most room to grow. Zach Pandl, Grayscale's Head of Research, believes that Zcash could gradually capture part of Bitcoin's enormous market share as demand for private digital payments increases.
The broader sector comprises roughly 15 cryptocurrencies worth about $1.6 trillion combined, with Bitcoin controlling close to 90% of that value. Litecoin and XRP have pitched themselves as faster or cheaper payment alternatives but have not seriously threatened Bitcoin's position. Zcash, on the other hand, offers private transactions through zero-knowledge proofs called zk-SNARKs.
By mid-2026, approximately 90% of Zcash transactions used shielded transfers, which Grayscale sees as increasingly relevant due to growing digital surveillance. The market has already taken notice, with Zcash's market cap rising from around $4 billion in March to about $24.27 billion today.
