Grayscale's AI Crypto Sector Soars 54% in September
Grayscale's AI crypto sector experienced a remarkable surge in September, outperforming the broader market with a 54% gain. This significant increase was more than double the 24% gain posted by the broader crypto market under Grayscale's six-sector framework, as reported by the firm's head of research, Zach Pandl.
The sector's momentum was driven by early investor recognition of blockchains as foundational infrastructure for the emerging agent economy, according to Pandl. The use cases he pointed to include payments, identity, private computation, and verifiable records.
The AI sector's standout performers were NEAR, VVV, and WLD, which posted gains of 183%, 70%, and 47% respectively. TAO, another token in Grayscale's Decentralized AI Fund, added 37% to its value. A single-day spike on September 22 contributed to the sector's overall performance, with AI tokens posting a roughly 9.7% gain in one session.
Despite the impressive gain, the AI sector remains the smallest room in the house, with a post-rally valuation of approximately $15 billion. Grayscale has been strategically positioning itself around AI infrastructure, launching its Decentralized AI Fund in 2024 and rebranding its Bitcoin Miners ETF as the Grayscale AI Compute ETF in September.
