Grayscale's Zcash ETF Bid Gets Boost from DCG Contribution
Grayscale has filed an amendment to its S-3 registration statement, revealing that Digital Currency Group (DCG) is in talks to contribute approximately 200,000 Zcash (ZEC) tokens to the Grayscale Zcash Trust.
This contribution would be exchanged for shares in the Trust as part of Grayscale's efforts to convert the product into a spot ETF listed under the ticker ZCSH on NYSE Arca.
The contribution is not trivial, representing over 1% of all ZEC currently in circulation and carrying a notional value between $96 million and $111 million at recent trading prices between $480 and $555 per token.
DCG has a history with Grayscale's Zcash product, having authorized the purchase of up to $10 million in shares of the Trust back in 2022 to provide buy-side support during a period when crypto trust products were trading at steep discounts to their net asset value.
The conversion of the Zcash Trust into a spot ETF follows the same playbook as Grayscale's previous conversions, including its Bitcoin and Ethereum trusts. However, Zcash presents unique regulatory challenges due to its optional privacy features through shielded transactions.
