Hayes Bets Big on Ethereum, Institutional Confidence Surges
Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX, has made a notable purchase of Ethereum (ETH) worth $2.5 million through FalconX. This move comes as institutional confidence in ETH continues to grow. Hayes acquired 1,290 ETH at an average price of around $1,909 per coin, according to Lookonchain data.
Hayes' investment strategy has historically involved entering positions during uncertain market conditions. His purchase of ETH at current prices suggests he views the asset as a buying opportunity, despite it trading below key resistance levels. This move drew attention as ETH was still below resistance levels at $1,945 and $2,145.
Exchange data shows positive spot netflows of $5.58 million, indicating more ETH moved onto exchanges than off them. However, this figure remains modest compared to previous spikes seen earlier in the year. Derivatives data also supports the bullish sentiment, with Open Interest rising 2.2% to $11.97 billion and Funding Rates jumping 3,092% in 24 hours.
Analysts are projecting long-term targets for ETH between $10,000 and $20,000 based on historical cycle comparisons. Crypto Patel shared a chart comparing ETH's current structure to the cycles that peaked in 2017 and 2021, placing $10,000 as a key long-term level. Freedom By 40 published a monthly chart pointing to a possible $20,000 target by 2028, based on a projected 1,900% move from the lower boundary of ETH's current range.
