Hedera's Consensus Service Fee Hike: A Post-Treasury Economic Model Takes Shape
Hedera's Consensus Service has seen an increase in fees for submitting messages to the public ledger, rising from $0.0001 to $0.0008 per transaction under version 0.69.
This change may seem significant at first glance, with a 700% increase on paper, but it still translates to only a tiny absolute cost - a million submitted messages would rise from roughly $100 to $800 in base fees.
The analyst Cheeky Crypto suggests that this fee adjustment is not about making the network expensive, but rather preparing for a post-treasury economic model where real user fees can fund node operations and staking-related security.
Currently, Hedera's treasury-held HBAR supports various initiatives, including staking rewards, developer grants, and ecosystem incentives. However, as the treasury supply becomes less central, it is unclear whether real user fees will be able to take over this role.
